UBC Vancouver Campus Plan

Outcome
The UBC Vancouver Campus Plan, which was approved by the University’s Board of Governors in 2010, provides a cohesive framework for the campus’s existing and future development. This Land Use Plan addresses future academic and research needs and the issues that require greater attention to successfully develop UBC as a world-class and sustainable institution.

Background
Throughout UBC's history, each campus plan has changed in response to the ideas of the campus community, resulting in a range of building forms and environments on the UBC Vancouver campus. The latest plan was developed through a six-phase comprehensive consultation program with students, residents, alumni and other stakeholders from 2005 to 2010. Kirk & Co. designed and implemented consultation programs for several of the phases.

Public Materials
Kirk & Co. provided strategic direction in the preparation of the UBC Campus Plan, including design and implementation of the campus community consultation program. Kirk & Co. also hosted a number of roundtable discussions to encourage input from external community members.

Key Milestones
Key milestones include:

  • Completion of a consultation process that included six phases (2005-2010)
  • Several successful open houses, workshops, policy roundtables and online feedback forums to initiate community engagement in the final review process
